TO ensemble presents a concert inspired by the Singapore of the past, present and future. Through cinematic compositions interspersed with improvisations - a blend of jazz, film score, classical music and Asian sounds, the music paints stories of this island city state, where diverse cultures, the old and the new are rapidly converging. From the fishing village that Singapore once was, the mythical goddess of the sea Mazu, a dream of a space port to the soundscapes of this metropolis of concrete and green, join us as we travel through time in a musical journey like no other.

In the intimate setting of the Play Den, audiences will get to experience up close the various “origins” of contemporary fusion music, from the alap style of improvisation in Carnatic (South Indian) music, the blues and bebop solos of jazz, to the “contemporary fusion” - rich tapestries where film and classical music blend with these traditional forms.

Featuring Lazar T.Sebastine (Indian violin), Teo Boon Chye (Saxophone), Tze Toh (piano) and exciting talents from our mentorship program Ho Kah Keh, Masato Miyata, Thaarmin Thana Rajan, Natalia Padgen, the concert will also be the world premiere of new works by composer Tze Toh.

There will be an open rehearsal on the 29th November (8pm, The Arts House Play Den) where the public can observe the process, participate in the music making. There will also be a composer sharing session, as well as a dialogue with the musicians. *Limited seats. Priority will be given to concert ticket holders.
